For my data visualization project, I will use a student life survey that was conducted on the support or lack thereof of a Student Government Association (SGA) service that would provide menstrual products on campus. If you read our upcoming staff ed in the Rocket, the social justice committee requested over $12,000 to apply a pilot program providing products in 23 all-gender restrooms on campus. Because of a disagreement over $9,000, the request was tabled and returned to the finance committee.
The data collected and presented to the SGA Senate showed that a total of 323 respondents have had their period unexpectedly at least once in public. 557 respondents, or 72.91%, would support the service through SGA and would feel comfortable with the price coming from the student activity fee. Another 158 respondents would support the service, but not the price coming from the student activity fee.
I think that this is a very important topic on campus, especially for girls. The relevance of this topic, being that it came to consciousness last week and is an ongoing proposal, makes it a good study to showcase.
